Joe to Pro Cycling

In 2009 I'd been inactive for 8 years, had just turned 30, weighed 240 lbs and had enough. This blog is the journey of starting brand new in the sport of cycling, regaining fitness and aiming to compete in the Elite ranks of Amateur racing.

Current Weight: 180 lbs

    Find me on...

That's a pretty nice Crux I spy in your pics. As I contemplate an upgrade, from my aluminum one, give me a general review on initial tests and rides... Thnx.

The carbon crux is all snap and agile in corners - a racing bike for cross. There isn’t any sluggishness to the way the frame rides and I’ve felt that I could take corners much more aggressively with confidence on it. Jumping out of corners or hard parts of a course where you have to pedal under load it is a champ. I guess it is lighter as well then aluminum - but the weight of a cross bike never occurs to me in the midst of a ride.

That also means it’s not as smooth through choppy or rough sections. You’ll need to use some skill, tire pressure, and solid lines to navigate a rough section - which I find more when I ride the Crux on single track then in races. The Cobl Goblr seatpost helps to eliminate this mostly, but it’s something to be aware of.

    Completely impractical.
    Insanely hot.

    Early morning easy spin.

Fun group rode this evening. Low numbers - but it was the lowest wind - nicest weather we’ve had all year!

    Pit stop

I don’t know where this is - but I want to ride here.

I’ve been doing this bonedeth thing for four years and six months. Give or take a few days. In that time I’ve had a few ideas about stuff I wanted to put out into the world. So now I’m doing that. Starting with this lousy t-shirt. Which is about bike racing.

You can find all the info including how to get one here.

This shirt was printed by Out of Line Press

And another thing… I’m starting to coaching people (not joking). My rates are reasonable (really). I’d love to work with NYC locals but I’m not picky. Shoot me an email at danchabanov@gmail.com

This post is kind of a big deal for me and feels like a turning point for bonedeth. So you’re probably going to hear more about all of this in the near future. Especially the tshirts which I hope you like.

    This.

Gaining weight won’t make you miserable.
Fear of gaining weight, however, will.

Focus on good fuel - not starving yourself. Your weight is your weight.
