Quick Clarification. Whenever there is an argument between drivers and cyclists on our roads - drivers always bring up the taxes they pay as their greater rights to the road.
The only difficulty with that is the fact that those taxes and registrations are for monies that help with Federal transportation budgets - things like Highways - not the local roads cyclists use. When it comes to local roads we are all pretty equal on how the road is supported and the wear and tear of cyclists is profoundly less. Let alone no cyclists I know are bike only - they have vehicles and drive as much as anyone else.
These arguments come from impatience and ignorance not from “drivers” - but simply lazy people who make up the percentage of unsafe travelers on our roads.
A cyclist isn’t “asking for it” by traveling on the road - unless a driver considers them self an irresponsible, impatient person with a tendency towards road rage - but in that case they aren’t safe for anyone.
Meaning, the only people who make roads unsafe for cyclists are the same self-centered people who make it unsafe for cars and pedestrians as well. And I don’t have any tolerance to try and accommodate someone like that.
Bikes aren’t new - they’ve been on American roads for 100 years. Time to grow up and attempt a little emotional stability and respect for your fellow man when you travel.
